Carry out Is One of Timbaland’s Least Surprising Efforts to the Present Day
It is a night of fun, funk, and flirting onstagebut at last a successful fundraiser for victims of last year’s great floods. An advantage concert featuring US pop celebrity Justin Timberlake, rapper-producer Timbaland and teenager vocalist Jojo drew thousands of screaming fans on Sat.night to the SM Mall of Asia grounds in Pasay Town . Proceeds of the show dubbed Changing Lives, mounted by Francis Lumen’s All-Youth Channels and backed by Smart Chum and Smart Brother , will go to the PLDT Smart Foundation. Among the beneficiaries are families in Benguet and Rizal provinces who lost their houses or friends in the attack of Typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng, as well as scholars of the devastated Angono College of the humanities. Timbaland must be feeling a bit confused currently. The last single from his Shock Value II set, ‘If We Ever Meet Again’, proved a big hit for the rapper / producer, but this failed to transliterate into album sales. No surprise he is returning to basics for the album’s 3rd spin-off, passing over some more doubtful hook-ups ( Miley Cyrus, Chad Kroeger ) in favour of a fool-proof Justin Timberlake collabo.
But while ‘Carry Out‘ is as dependable as they come on paper, this is also where the track falls down. The beats, blips and swagger of a trademark Timbo ‘n’ JT track are all present and correct, but like some of the beatsmith’s latest efforts, it’s seriously low in creativeness.
The inevitable conclusion? It’s nice having Justin back in the charts again, but ‘Carry Out’ is one of Timbaland’s least surprising efforts to the present day
