Windows to Offer Browser Choice

Exciting changes are happening in the world of internet browsing. For millions of users whose only option for internet was the Internet Explorer browser, it is the beginning of a new adventure.
Europe’s Competition Commission and Microsoft have entered into a legal agreement which obligates Microsoft to offer alternative web browsing options to users in
Microsoft will now extend a choice of web browsing options to its Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 users. The offer is in the form of a software update that will be sent to all users, and will allow the users’ to choose and install the web browser that they want. Microsoft has put up screenshots to educate the users on the features of the update on its blog.
Marketing opportunities because of greater visibility will not be in the offing for web browsers like Google Chrome, Opera, Safari and Firefox. In his blog, BBC technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones states that users who previously did not think about their browsers will now perforce make an informed choice. He also says that Microsoft’s competitors now have a unique opportunity to woo the Internet Explorer users
The basic user of the Internet may become confused with too many choices and end up choosing the safety net of the default Internet Explorer. It is the time of familiarity versus new adventure.
